Many negative events that occurred throughout the year are likely to continue into the new year. Because of the interconnectedness of crypto companies, many market commentators expect the domino effect to continue.
Countries that have been slow to regulate cryptocurrency may take concrete steps to control the market in 2023, especially since individual investors have suffered significant losses as a result of the various incidents in 2022. The risk of cryptocurrency sector contagion spreading to traditional finance is also being discussed as a reason for increased regulation. As a result, 2023 may be referred to as the year of crypto market regulation.
On the other hands, Central bank digital currencies (CBDC), which countries have been working on for several years, may see significant developments. Countries have already stated their intent to compete with the crypto sector by employing the same technology. As a result, CBDCs may open a new front against cryptocurrencies.
It’s worth noting that, despite the fact that institutional investors exited the market in large numbers in 2022, many financial behemoths decided to expand their services into the crypto space throughout the year and formed various strategic partnerships in this regard. Depending on more favorable macroeconomic conditions, the movement of these companies in the coming year may provide a means for institutional money to return to the crypto space.
What should not be overlooked is the probability that the troubling events of 2022 will continue in 2023. Due to liquidity shortages and the fear of contagion, the crypto industry may remain under pressure in 2023.
